RIP election 2008

I am bidding farewell to the elections of 2008. I am ready to move on with my life and once again forget about political activism:)

I invite all readers to write in their memoriums...

So long, farewell, auf weidersehn, adieu to...

you Presidential campaigns,

you proposition campaigns.

and you George W.

Tonight I just want to rent a video, order pizza, and NOT answer the phone (too many recordings in this Republican/Democrat divided household). Someone can tell me tomorrow how things turned out. Of course, Hamilton and I did vote (see photo proof on my blog) this morning.

Good bye election season. The farewell is bittersweet. I'm glad you're over because you've gone on for a little too long; I'm glad you're over because all the over-simplifications and straw man arguments make us think we are irreconcilably different than our neighbors.
On the other hand, I appreciate that you encourage me to deal with hard issues my wimpy, non-confrontational soul typically avoids.
And you know how to make a great exit. just when I think I hate you; just when I think all you do is tear people apart; I see footage of people waiting in historicly long lines to vote and I see results coming in, voices being heard, and I can't help but think you're alright.
So let's take a little break. Put these campaigns on hold for a bit. But come back soon. There are still things we need to figure out.
Go America.

Slight revision: Seeing Obama elected President was more moving than I expected. I hope that he is the catharsis America and the African-American community needs...and deserves. McCain also gave a great concession speech I hope people take to heart.

John is right, America seemed like a pretty awesome place today.

Farewell dear Election '08, I have really enjoyed you. I enjoyed sitting at the BYU democrats booth explaining Obama's policies, I loved getting personalized e-mails from Obama, getting updates on the campaign. I so enjoyed my campaign buttons, t-shirts, and stickers. And lastly I will miss feeling like Barack Obama depended on me.
However I will not miss being nervous when people told me poll numbers, my family member's blogs being overwhelmed with Prop 8 business. But most of all I will not miss George W. I am so excited for the next four years.

Hi Travis, it's your aunt in the old world, i.e. MaryAnn, with a report from the other side of the Atlantic. I can't quite believe how happy I feel about the election result and how many people, German and expatriate Americans, are equally happy.

I actually wept watching Obama's speech at 5:45 am this morning: and it wasn't (only) because I was so darned tired.

If things keep up, I might buy myself a flag and begin celebrating the 4th of July.

Great comments, everyone. John & Everett, I will miss the long phlilosophical conversations with you and Travis, but I felt so happy and moved as I watched Obama's speech. I am excited to see how the next few years turn out. I also thought McCain's speech was great. Despite a lot of the crazy culture war divides, I have to agree with everyone that America is pretty cool. I love that people in eery party are so passionately motivated to make our country a better place.

kalex: loved the "I voted" photo. It had been too long that I seen a picture of the ole hambone. I expect regular blog posts now.

amy: looks like is passed. I am sure many people on both sides want to take a nap and never hear those words again!

john: I too felt inspired by the actual application of it all. It is strange that something so soaked in media, money, and at times propaganda can what I saw yesterday.

*oops. I am eating lunch while typing.... I am re-doing the entire comment due to several typing errors.

holy smokes. I just realized that my above redo has mistakes in it. I am struggling today.

here goes some more replies:

jack: as I recall you voted for Hillary. were you a double agent for Obama all these months? very sneaky.

maryann: glad to know the euros will like us again. it was a great night for sure. I'll start shopping for your Lee jeans, american flag cowboy shirt, and boots.

heidi: yes it was a fun night to share with you. If you miss the political run around, you and I can incorporate a 15 minute political debate into family night. It looks like you are suffering from typing problems as well. Everyone, she meant "every" party to eery party:)

Try not to look down on Travis (or me) too much for all the typos. It wasn't his fault. It must have been the soda I spilled on the keyboard, or maybe it was the caramel popcorn I was eating last night as I was googling about the elections. Mmmm. I like caramel popcorn.

barack obama is such an eloquent speaker...so inspiring..YES WE CAN! i loved the part about the puppy... i am not going to miss the sick feeling in my stomach that i get thinking about how mean and spiteful people can be about politics. i didn't vote or support john mcain, but it doesn't mean i want him to be assasinated. it will be good to not hear all of my neighbors opinions so i can still live here.
also, i am really happy and somewhat surprised that prop 8 passed...truly a picture perfect election for the conservitive democrat.
